Entertaining Speaker #5 -- Speaking After Dinner
There Are No Little Dogs
Abbey was born the runt of a mini-dachsund litter
Aunt gave her to sister, Chrissy
In her own eyes, Abbey is a big dog
Play with food to get her to eat when sick - thrill of the hunt sparked the little wild dog in her, getting her to eat
She would play too; get a tug toy and she would hang on for dear life, convinced that she could get it from you
Head size of walnut, and mom trained her to ring bell
Dog-trainer on radio interview
Chihauhau Puppies
Man brought him puppy chihauhas
Train them, so they won't grow up to be killers
???
Then the trainer realized, that within these mouse-sized bodies were complete dogs
All the instincts, behavior, attitude of a dog
As far as the C's were concerned, they could be vicious killers, if they wanted to
Yorkie
Out walking his dog, an adult retriever, through the tall grass
A lady was walking her small Yorkshire Terrier
It was bounding two, three times for each of her steps, to get above the grass
They met and talked for a moment
The diminuitive Yorkie sized him and his dog up, and decided, "OK, I'll let you live. But don't push it, pal."
That Yorkie was a big dog
Abbey & Dugan
Moved into new house with Chrissy and Brad
They got new dog, Dugan.
Swiss Mountain Dog; like St. Bernard, but not slobbery
Abbey freaked initially
But now, the 7lb Abbey cows the 70lb puppy.
She's a big dog
She plays with Dugan
They'll pull on the same tug toy, evenly matched by all appearances
Abbey will also grab the toy, dash across the room, drop it, and wait
When Dugan lopes over, Abbey barks ferociously at him, taunting him.
Dugan will back down, and Abbey will grab the toy, and dash off, to tease him again
Abbey is a big dog!
I don't think she's completely aware that Dugan out-weighs her by 10-fold.
That, or maybe she doesn't care
It seems that, with dogs, size is not a physical thing. It's about determination and heart.
I never cared for little yippy dogs before, but Abbey has given me new respect for her kind. And she's shown me that it's not about the size of your body, but the size of your heart.
