Problem

Matthew 7:1-5

"Do not judge lest you be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. And why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye."

What does Jesus seem to be teaching here?

Matthew 18:15-17

"And if your brother sins, go and reprove him in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother. But if he does not listen to you, take one or two more with you, so that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every fact may be confirmed. And if he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax-gatherer."

Galatians 6:1-5

"Brethren, even if a man is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and thus fulfill the law of Christ. For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have reason for boasting in regard to himself alone, and not in regard to another. For each one shall bear his own load. "

We are told to help those in sin in a certain manner. How do you first determine that someone is sinning?

How are we to restore this person to righteousness? What sort of actions should we take? What sort of attitude should we take? How does this affect our being judgmental?

Note, that in Galatians we are told to restore this person, "each one looking to yourself." Compare this to Jesus' exhortation to first remove the log from your own eye. What do these say about how we approach someone else's sin.
